Normandy D-Day Beaches & Route de Liberte (Self Tour)
A long weekend taking in the Normandy landing beaches and route to Le Mont St Michel
Normandy D-Day Beaches Guided Motorbike Tour
A long weekend including quality local hotels which will take you along the Normandy D-Day landing beaches of Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno & Sword. All named as part of the WWII OverLord mission. Also tracing the route de liberte through Normandy to Le Mont St Michel, Brittany.
East of the Normandy DDay Landing beaches near Sword Beach is Pegasus Bridge. During Operation Overlord on 6th June 1944 the British 6th Airborne Division Glider unit took the Bridge and was named Pegasus in tribute to them and the importance of this early victory.
You’ll see the tribute to the allied paratrooper hanging from the church in St Mere Eglise, also stopping in the historical town of Bayeux and the pretty port town of Port en Bessin, where you will stay the night in your designated hotel.
A highpoint of this Motorcycle tour is Arromanches and its artificial harbour, known as Mulberry Harbour, played a vital part in the liberation of Normandy in 1944.
The Landing Museum and 360 degree cinema in Arromanches explains Overlord in more detail and the cinema films are projected on 9 screens in total giving the 360 degree effect showing both original and more recent footage.
Following the Route de Liberte on great biking roads down to the iconic ‘Le Mont St Michel’ on the Normandy/Brittany border.
Experience the beautiful countryside along the stunning roads of the Counter Attack/Contre Attaque and the Suisse Normande. check in for the 2nd night in Brittany where you will visit the American cemetery near St James and the German equivalent in Brittany.
The spectacular Le Mont St Michel and its fabulous bay remaining close at all times while enjoying the virtually traffic free roads this region has to offer.
Take in more scenic routes via some fantastic roads back to your departure point via the market towns of Villedieu les Poeles or Vire on the border of Calvados and the Suisse Normande where we will say ‘A bientot’ until the next time.
A fantastic week end of historical tribute to the brave souls involved in the landings whilst riding some of the best roads in Northern France.
